car had massive overheating problems today. my heater became my heat exchanger. that was the only way to cool my motor.

for whatever reason, coolant wasnt getting up to the radiator. the radiator would be cold and the engine would be MASSIVELY overheating. to the point of spewing a nice vapor of coolant (which later turned to mostly water after filling it a lot with gallon jugs) out of my bonnet.

it looks like the heater comes off the thermostat housing, so i dont know if its my thermo or if something is clogged preventing coolant to the radiator.

tomorrow/tuesday i need to pull everything apart and see what the culpret is.

oh, and i went with D2 Racing Sport coilovers. 1 year warrenty on them, so ill test that out for sure. my options were few so i chose what i thought was best for my price range. i will do something else later on, but these should do the job for a year or two.

sounds like your car needs a good flush. maybe mineral build-up.

see, i just recently did that too. i followed the proceedure for flushing the coolant (MR, much differant than a normal car :() just a few months ago. tomorrow im going to work on flushing it and testing out my t-stat (boiling water and see if it opens)

another thing i forgot to meantion is that at my fill spot, when i filled it, i got a foamy bubble coolant overflow out of the fill spot.

i was reading mr2 forums for solutions. and it looks like i may have a blown head gasket! shit.

im going to do a leak test and a compression test tomorrow first off and check the plugs to see if they have burnt coolant or something.

im REALLY hoping for just a t-stat. but now it's looking unlikely :( my best bet will be to rebuild my spare motor and swap it in as a whole. which means... DUN DUN DUN

time to source some fordged 4AGZE pistons and rods as well as oil squirters and possibly a crank (or just work with mine)

we'll see. my car may be getting a turbo build much sooner than planned... (and i dont have money for one)

    im working on that now.

im really leaning towards a HIGH compression motor which will consist of a 20v/supercharged 4ag(z)e crank, 4agze rods, and some high compression pistons (aiming for ~13:1). i will be ordering parts within the next month or two. im sourcing the crank and rods first.

we'll see though. plans may completely change soon ;)

ok, im tracking two motors right now. a supercharged motor (needs IC, plubing, and few small stuff, ~$1000). as well as a high compression jdm small port motor. the small port has 10.3:1 compression, oil squirters (on the Sc block too), 40k-60k miles on it, $590

so im leaning toward the small port motor for $590. swap in my large port cams and have a healthy gain in power and reliability

weird thing today was i drove it to school and back and it seemed to operate normally as far as temp. it did have a miss at idle causing a rough idle but it was fine to drive...

im going to go ahead and replace the engine anyways because i need something reliable over winter. i havent had a car over winter for the last 3 years... :spitdrink:
