DA Problem! ima noob

ok my dad owns a 92 tegra and for the past couple of months it has been sitting here

and he said if i can get it to start he will give it to me

but the problem is when i put the key and try to start the engine
it jus cranks up but wont start up

the lights and check engine lights turn on,but thats it

can i get some advice?

You Didnt Much Info but It Sounds Like The Battery or the Starter.

So Just Test This By Simply Giving the Car a JUMP.

nd it does the same problem

If the Battery is Fine than Its a Bad Starter...

But Before You Buy a New Starter Check the Minor Things.

Check the Spark Plugs for Erosion and Check the Spark Plug Wires.

Check the Air Filter and Air Filter Hose to Throttle Body Before You Buy a New Starter...

If The Starter Is Ok the Starter is not the Problem then Run a Diagnostic on your ECU ... oke:

 

Sitting for Months... or Years???

Also I was Thinking Fuel Pump but you have to Trouble Shoot Until you Find the Answer So Just Run a Diagnostic...

 

He did say it cranks, so I doubt it is the starter. It is most likely fuel delivery or ingnition.

 

yea you need those 3 things to start. gas, spark, crank. good luck!! that sounds like a pretty good deal your dads giving you!!

 

its spark make sure the distributor is good they are a common problem on those cars. make sure the plugs are all good cap rotor and wires. if thats not it then like deibidosan said u need fuel, spark and compression. so if ur getting those then ur all set.

if the engine is turning over youre either not gettin fuel or spark basically. Read up on how to check that cause once you figure out which one youre not getting youre on your way to fixing it.

 

It may be the ignitor. Common for 90-93s.

 

check for spark that is the main thing take a plug wire off the cap of the distributor and make sure u get spark if not check to make sure electtricity is going to the distributor from the coil pack or ignitor same thing. if not there then major prob. but check that first

 

has to be the fuel pump or fuel pump relay....or maybe a dirty fuel filter...shouldnt be expensive tho

 

mabey it needs to be timed?

I have a da. when you turn the key on when the dash lights light up do you here a klick under the dash? Do you here when the dash lights come on do you hear the pump prime under the center of the rear seat. if you dont hear eather one its prob the main relay. its under the dash drivers side 4x3x2 inch brown or black box with on plug in it with like 10 wires. most of the time its the main relay. $40 from acura or $10 at a junk yard. Thats a very common thing to go.
