Looks like Toyota have some plans for a small rear wheel drive compact priced incredibly low. This will be good for the import market. Within days of announcing Toyota's formation of a "Committee to create interesting cars," this summer's Best Car Plus magazine reveals that the long-rumoured new AE86 type car has indeed been spawned by the group and should be in showrooms in the winter of 2008. The new article goes into some detail of the new car's spec. Under 4m long and 1.7m wide, it's pretty low at 1.35m tall, and engineers have been directed to keep weight below 1,000kgs. Power will come from a 1.5L 2NZ-FE good for 120 horsepower. What has been unknown until this time is where Toyota would source a cheap RWD drivetrain, but Best Car has learned that it will come from new partner Fuji Heavy Industries - better known to you and me as Subaru. And the best news of all? The committee's final directive is to keep the new car's sticker price below 1.5million Yen. That's about $12,300 USD in today's money. more :interesting:
it looks like a Track/GT model 350Z. It is interesting though. I wonder if it would be a seller over here.
i'd rock that!! it doesn't resemble the original, but its still nice. especially if it's competetively priced
it kinda reminds me of a Scion Tc in a way. cant put my finger on it though. i like it. if it comes out close to what that concept looks like, it should have a huge aftermarket following. i wanna see it photoshopped to see the real potential! not to mention the throw back panda paint scheme! at that price imagine all the inexperienced drivers that will run out and get one and crash it a week after, trying to be the next Takumi! lmao!
But why the 120hp 1.5li 2NZ-FE? The 4AGEU of the original AE86 was 1.6li and had over 120hp (not much more though). It would be cool if an optional engine was the 2.4li 2AZ-FE from the tC which is DOHC, has VVT-i and 161hp or even the 1.8li 2ZR-FE from the Scion xD which is DOHC has VVT-i and puts out 128hp.
thats pretty cool, as long as its RWD and the price..real cheap but hey im sure the US WONT get it....lol
not bad.. i think its a lil to futuristic looky and the engine doesnt really do it for me.. yea i know theyre bringing back old school..but the motor doesnt need to be old school.. but at any cost it isss RWD.. nice!!
i saw in a magazine today that their thinking about putting a 180ps (hp) EJ20 in it!!!! low center of gravity! and they changed the front a little. i dont like the front end change. but i think a rwd ej20 powered small car like this would be cool! ill try to buy that mag and scan it.
I'd hate to be the new guy to come in and kill the spirit, but that appears to come from whichever Japanese magazine that is that distributes fake concepts. The name escapes me right now...likely from the same company who brought you this.. This.. And even this. Wish i could remember the name of this magazine.
